Living In Shepherds Bush London
Shepherd's Bush London Guide
Shopaholics rejoice – if high street stores get your heart racing then circle Shepherd's Bush on your London map. Home to London's Westfield shopping centre, Shepherd's Bush is a predominantly residential zone with the largest urban shopping area in Europe in the middle. There's more to this area than just H&M stores, in fact there's so much we had to create two posts on all the things to do in Shepherd's Bush – it's location next to some of London's most hip-and-happening areas means it is slowly transforming into the next 'it' place. However, it has somehow managed to avoid complete gentrification and maintains some of its slightly 'rugged' charm. Despite it being a bit rough around the edges, it is a safe and desirable part of London to live in. There are also plenty of great restaurants, bars and entertainment venues in the area and its central location makes it a vibrant and exciting place to live. Shepherd's Bush is within the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Located in West London it is surrounded by areas such as Hammersmith, Holland Park and Chiswick. The public transport in the area is excellent with tube, Overground and bus connections located throughout Shepherd's Bush. You can access the Circle Line, Hammersmith & City Line and the Central Line at the various tube stations throughout the area. Like most areas of London, the property prices are steadily increasing in Shepherd's Bush and have jumped 8 per cent in the past year. Despite this, it is still a lot cheaper than its neighbours, Hammersmith and Notting Hill. The majority of the rental properties in Shepherd's Bush are one or two bedroom flats. In 2015, the average rental price for a home in Shepherd's Bush was £2,000 per month. For a tasty but not-too-fancy meal, head to Abu Zaad, a middle eastern restaurant focusing on Syrian cuisine. The portions are generous and full of spice and flavour – you will soon fill your bellies with rice, aubergine and tender meat dishes. For the amount of food you get, this place is fantastic value. Well, ooh-la-la, darling! For something a little bit special or just an excuse to wear that sparkly dress, don your most glamorous outfit and sip champagne at Searcys. Surrounded by designer stores such as Gucci and Prada, you will feel like a London highflyer in this opulent champagne bar. What better way to finish (or perhaps start) your day of shopping at Westfield? This is the sort of pub you would be proud to call your local. A casual and relaxed atmosphere with an excellent selection of beers, real ales, wines and cocktails, plus some decent pub grub to tempt your taste buds. This is a great place to come after work or for a weekend pint with your friends. During the evenings on Thursday to Sunday they have DJs spinning some tunes to keep you entertained and maybe encourage you to get your groove on. The Oak is the latest addition to Jasper Gorst's collection of neighbourhood bars and pubs and it is a winner for those looking for a fantastic gastro pub experience. The menu has a Mediterranean focus – you'll feel like you're in Italy and southern France as you gorge on pizzas, fresh tomato sauces, olive oil and plenty of cheese. Keep your eye out for their Monday Wine Club where every Monday they choose wines from their incredible selection and offer them at 50% off. Yep. Half price wine. Meet you there? Showcasing some of the biggest names in music, the O2 in Shepherd's Bush is one of London's best live performance venues. Already in the line up for 2015 are Anastasia, Jose Gonzalez, Macy Gray, and FIVE (FIVE will make you get down now...). Book your tickets in advance on the O2 website. Originally built in 1904, this beautiful building has been used for swing dances, bingo nights, a soup kitchen and rehearsal rooms and is a small concert venue for up and coming bands and cabaret shows. The space is regularly used for video and photography shoots and is a great place for a wedding reception.
